Dodging Bullets!

November 14, 2009 by Tom Leave a Comment

Ah, ’tis been nearly a week since I tried to book the Dodging Bullets band for the play at the Joyo.  They are busy fellows, but alas, Connor, lead vocalist and song writer, e-mailed me with a big YES, so the show goes on!

Folks who attend will be impressed with these guys! They all attend Middle School but man, are they talented! It will be a good match, for the topics of my books are all youth-related. I think kids who attend will be able to relate to the Bullets and they will put on a great show!

The pitfalls in working with kids! Thursday night rehearsals went well, but we missed Brandon/Vince as he was grounded! Bummer! If he would have only stayed in the assembly without skipping!

Denny had an amazing thing happen Friday. He was reading his lines for Detective Shepherd, and just coming to the part about the narc, Kelly, and her relationship to private invesitgator Quinn. Denny received a call from a lady named Quinn Kelly! Coincidence? Meant to be moment? Or just a crazy fluke!

Tuesday’s Rehearsals!

November 11, 2009 by Tom Leave a Comment

The Tuesday night play rehearsal went well. Despite the fact Detective Shepherd went with his wife to teach yoga in Seward, and despite the fact that Miss Thurston the P.O. took a motorcycle trip with her sweetie in South Dakota, Alex (Reason) and Brandon (Vince) did exceptionally well.

Alex, who has won an award for his acting, has a ton of lines, but he is plowing through them with style. Brandon, who has never acted in life, impressed me.  Alex (16) and Brandon (14) have a good chemistry, and despite their age differences, they are going to convince the audience that they are truly good friends, much like Reason and Vince.

Alex called tonight to say he had found Boone! So tomorrow night I should have all five cast members at rehearsal!

Denny and Cheri, of course, are the supporting characters, though they deliver more lines as Detective Shepherd and Miss Thurston. They are the glue that holds this thing together, and both are doing an exceptional job.

First Rehearsal!

November 7, 2009 by Tom Leave a Comment

Tonight this first rehearsal for the play went smashingly well! My main three actors have all had acting experience, and so they really nailed their parts. They really gave me confidence that we’re on the right track!

Today, Nov. 6th, I just spoke in Waverly to a group of high school students. They were an attentive audience and I hopefully left them with a curiousity about my books. I related how my work with troubled kids resulted in me writing my fact-paced, action-packed stories. I wish I could speak at more schools!

New web site!

November 6, 2009 by Tom Leave a Comment

Thanks for checking out the new TomFrye.org site!  As you can see, things are a bit different than the last time you probably visited the site.  I’m excited to take the site in a new direction and use it to share even more about the books I’m working on, dramas I’m involved with, speaking engagements, and other things that are happening.  Please leave a comment on one of the book pages if you think of it, or drop me a line to let me know what’s on your mind.
