During a school bus crash caused by a drunken biker, 14-year-old Rain Nelson discovers a map leading to ancient Lakota relics. Rain's father, Chase, President of the Outlaws, and Daws Holland, president of the Elder's Den, have been rivals for years. To retrieve the map, Daws sends the Nomad to murder Chase. Rain and his little brother, Jessie, discover him dead on their front porch.
Rain and Jessie are adopted by Big Mike Tory, who moves them to Havelock. There, Rain meets the daughter of Billy Connors, owner of the Emerald Pub. Using the map to retrieve the relics, Rain is involved in a shoot-out. Daws Holland is killed. Rain is sent to prison. Ten years pass. The relics remain hidden. Will they be returned to the Cheyenne River Rez or will they be sold at auction?
